Medicare Made Clear Blog Series: Get Ready for the Open Enrollment PeriodPosted by Medicare Made Clear
September is an important preparation time for people eligible for Medicare. Just as kids are going “back to school,” it might be time for you to get “back to Medicare.”
Why? Because the 2013 Medicare Open Enrollment Period (OEP) starts on October 15, 2012, and continues through December 7, 2012. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries can add, switch or drop their Medicare coverage, if they choose to do so. OEP is generally the only time you can make changes to your Medicare coverage, unless you qualify for an exception. Any changes made during this period take effect on January 1, 2013.
Welcome to Countdown to OEP
Countdown to OEP is the first part of a two-part series designed by Medicare Made Clear to help you navigate the 2013 Medicare Open Enrollment Period (OEP).
Maybe you’re new to Medicare. Or maybe you just haven’t looked at your Medicare coverage for a while. Countdown to OEP gives you key information that can help you get ready for the Open Enrollment Period, no matter what your situation.
We’ll focus on topics such as:
Where to get reliable information to answer your most important Medicare questions
What you’re hearing about Medicare in the news, and what it might mean for you
How to find out if your current Medicare plan (or plans) may be changing in 2013
The second part of the series kicks off in October. OEP Boot Camp will take you through specific steps to review your Medicare coverage and health care needs. Then you can look at your 2013 plan choices and take action, if needed.
Remember, you have until December 7 to make changes to your Medicare coverage.
