Posted by Medicare Made Clear

where-to-get-help-for-medicare-open-enrollmentMedicare Open Enrollment ends at midnight on December 7. Which of the following describes your situation?

a) I reviewed my coverage, made a decision and am all set for next year.

b) I’m on track to meet the December 7 deadline for making changes, if any.

c) I don’t know what to do about my Medicare coverage for next year.

If you answered “c,” do not despair. You still have time to make an informed decision. The resources listed in this article may help. If you answered “b,” you might use these resources to confirm your decision. If you answered “a,” then you may want to choose a different article to read!

It’s worth it to take the time to review and compare your Medicare choices each year during Open Enrollment. But you don’t have to do it alone! Here are resources that may help.

  • Use the Medicare Plan Finder to compare your current coverage with other plan options available in your area. You can enroll in a new plan on the spot if you decide to make a change.
  • Review the Medicare & You handbook online. It’s also mailed to people with Medicare.
  • Check to see if you may be able to get Extra Help paying your prescription drug coverage costs. You may also call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213. TTY users should call 1-800-325-0778.
    • Get one-on-one help from your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

If you currently have a Medicare Advantage plan, your plan sponsor may also be able to answer your questions. Call the number on the back of your member ID card. And be sure to review the Annual Notice of Changes from your plan.

You may also call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to find out more about your coverage options. TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048.

Don’t leave your Medicare choices to chance. Make informed decisions based on your needs and the coverage options available where you live.
