What is National Medicare Education Week?Posted by Medicare Made Clear
National Medicare Education Week is one week each year that’s devoted to helping you understand Medicare. It begins on Sept. 15 – exactly one month before Medicare Open Enrollment starts – and it lasts through Sept. 21. Medicare Open Enrollment, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, is when you may change your Medicare coverage choices for the upcoming year.
Why dedicate an entire week to Medicare education? Well, it’s no secret that it can be a challenge to grasp the many Medicare choices available and to make an informed decision. If you struggle with this, you are not alone.
According to a 2013 UnitedHealthcare survey:
- Most adults can’t identify what Medicare Parts A, B, C and D cover.
- 70% of baby boomers describe their understanding of Medicare as “fair” or “poor.”
Local Events Offer Help with Medicare
During National Medicare Education Week, UnitedHealthcare hosts events around the country. Events are designed to provide information, help answer your questions and empower you to make coverage choices based on your needs.
Events feature presentations and opportunities to get answers to your Medicare questions. The goal is to help you:
- Learn the basics of Medicare
- Get to know Medicare coverage options
- Discover when you can change plans or enroll in Medicare
- Find out how delaying retirement may affect Medicare enrollment
Learn more about National Medicare Education Week and look for events in your area. Medicare beneficiaries, their families, friends and caregivers are invited. There is no cost to attend. Registration is encouraged since space may be limited.
Get Answers to Your Medicare Questions
You can still get answers to your questions even if you can’t get to a local event. The Medicare Made Clear team will be answering questions during a live Facebook event on Sept. 15, 2016, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., CST.
Anyone with access to a computer may participate and ask questions. It’s simple. You just type your question in as a comment and watch for the answer to appear in a return comment. You’ll also be able to see questions that others are asking and those answers, too. So it can be a good learning experience even if you don’t have a particular question to ask.
You may RSVP to receive Q&A event reminders.
With Medicare Open Enrollment just around the corner, now is the time to brush up on your Medicare knowledge and to review your Medicare coverage and needs for the upcoming year. National Medicare Education Week can help.
